Of course any material a contractor will supply you with is going to cost more than going to Lowes, contractors usualy cannot afford to work for free.
Would you really take a contractors word that something is green if you are paying a green contractor or would you like to see some documentation?
Lowes has many green products they have jumped on the band wagon as well. One of the coolest thing I think is the renewable/sustainable lumber that is in almost any lumber yard. There was a guy in CA and I do not remember all the information but gist is he was a hippy and he believed in sustainable harvesting of the forest well it took the forest industry to cripple itself out there to start to understand what he was saying had merit and always will have merit.
The bamboo tree is supposed to be one of the most renewable wood products that there is. Well funny thing is no one seems to say much about them cutting down old growth forest to plant more bamboo. Just because it is a green product you need to use your common sense.
Bamboo is harvested with machinery then milled in one of the most poluuted countries in the world, shipped on a boat that uses hundreds of gallons of fuel just to move a few feet, unloaded and shipped by truck to a ware house then finally to a Lowes and then to your project.
Sounds real GREEN
